would somebody please advise how to remove the block "Additional Required Information (profile)" with Date of Birth on register page ( /register.php ) ?

Try admincp -> options -> user profile options -> set "Require Date of Birth" to no.

That does not remove it it only makes it not compulsory to fill in.

We have had this added to the top of the User settings page.

WARNING: Information filled in on your profile page will be public. It is not compulsory to fill it in. We would like the Location filled in but only with your State/Country.

To remove the field you would need to edit the template and comment out the relevant area.
