php7 will be the lowest actively supported php version in less than 6 months... and is well known to be a great jump in speeds..
i hope that will be possible at least for vb4...its more resource intensive and many ppl using....Comment

Mark is half correct - 4.2.4 will remain beta for a while yet, however, its perfectly stable and can be used for production.
As for PHP7, thats being worked on in the background for vB3 & vB4, at this time there is nothing publicly available.
Alpha versions will be released at some point for people to test.
