    [Forum] Changethe category icon?

Spent long time on and off looking to sort this but nothing appears to work. I know how to change status icons adding to Prefix for Forum Status Images within each forum but my problem is when you click into Category (sub forum it still shows the default status icon even though i have entered into Prefix for Forum Status Images the same image as its parent but still the child forum (subforum) does not take up the same icon as its parent.

Question is am i missing something obvious i am not doing. And is there a way i can manually edit an add icon for each subforum per forum basis. It would be handy if the subforum icon would show but tried alot of things from googling and vb.org but nothing makes the icon show in the sub forum.

I have added couple of images to try explain better below.

You don't mean just replacing like the thread_old-30.png for example, do you?
No private support, only PM me when I ask for it. Support in the forums only.

In away yes but replace with a custom icon on a per forum basis similar too parent forums when u change forum_link-48,forum_new_lock-48 etc and so on.

So forum x thread icons would become custom ones using forum ID. Not sure if i make sense or not.

Getting a custom icon per forum is going to require custom code....you could try searching or asking on www.vbulletin.org, I know there are custom forum icon add ons there.

As in first trust spent long time goggling and trying almost everything at vb.org and mods too and nothing does this. I even search through there vb4 programming and help areas for weeks now and nothing for vb4 all for older versions like vb3.7.

Thanks for your reply, maybe can't be done i will carry on goggling and hope, mean if VB forums can't help Google only way to go. :-) Have seen this done on 2 forums just dunno how.

          Thank you

Custom icons per forum is definitely do-able. There's plenty of sites do it. Different ways of implementing it though, based on what you want.

For example, on my site I did away with having the icons as read-status markers and went for bold text in the forum name to do that instead. leaving me free to have a unique icon per forum. Once you've done that you don't need a mod, just edit the template to call an image with the forumid at the end of the name, and make sure you upload the relevant images. Easy!

I experimented with changing the opacity of the icons to indicate read/unread, but it didn't really work well.

Thank you again for your replies.

You would be netter to ask this on www.vbulletin.org....we are unable to provide support for custom code here, sorry.

Ultimately it's just editing the template to call an image with the forumid variable in the name.

Once again vBulletin surprises me with the lack of features and settings I really expect it to have. I don't want to deal with plugins, it's just too much hassle when I need to upgrade.
Why isn't this in the forum-settings? Didn't the developers realize that people would like to change these? Why just not call the forums 1,2,3,4,5... and skip the add the option to actually name the forums, why would anyone want to do that? :P
Can you believe this? The developers overlooked one of the most important features of a forum!
