I'm only a couple of years late, but where is the 'Safe Mode Upload' ?

I have the same problem, avatars show in posts but not in 'Whats New'.

Also you could check phpinfo (AdminCP -> Maintenance -> View PHP Info) if GD library is properly installed on your server (you could also ask your host for this). On that page you can also see if GD or ImageMagick is installed on your server. Which one is it?

I am having this same issue. It says my Safemode is OFF and I am not sure where to build this 777 temp directory>??

Normally just in the forum root.

So, in the root directory, I just add a folder /temp ?

Just built a new vBulletin site and none of my avatars is working in the side carts.

I have performed AdminCP->Maintenance->Rebuild Activity Stream, AdminCP -> Maintenance -> General Update Tools -> Rebuild Custom Avatar Thumbnails, as well as AdminCP -> Maintenance -> General Update Tools -> Rebuild Avatar Thumbnails.

              Nothing is working

My Avatars and Thumbs directories have full read/write permissions with root/root as user/user group.

              What does chmod 777 mean?

I have been through this before, on another site, but forget what finally worked.

              Thanks for any help.

PS: Looks like standard avatars are working ... but Custom avatars are not.

Not that anyone cares, but the issue was fixed.

Enabling Safe Mode, creating /tmp, making sure the images avatars, and thumbnails directories were writable, and then rebuilding everything was required.

I followed an old Ticket Request I submitted, where Lynne Sands provided assistance.

It's great that you guys keep the old tickets accessible, because they are very helpful, thanks.
