Certain photos failing to upload in album - Upload Failed

I've managed to upload over 1500 photos to an album. However periodically in the upload box I get a red exclamation mark telling me that a certain file failed to upload. If I try to re-upload it, it doens't work. I got round this problem by opening the image in paint, and re-saving it as a JPEG. This works. However, I now have an animated GIF and I cannot get it to upload. I have tried to change the name of the file and even uploaded to an image hosting site to use "upload from website" feature. Doesn't work.

I went into Admincp -> Maintenance -> diagnostics

I uploaded that exact file and no errors were found. Here is the result:

    Pertinent PHP Settings

    file_uploads: On
    open_basedir: None
    safe_mode: Off
    upload_tmp_dir: None
    upload_max_filesize: 128.00 MB

    Results

No errors occurred while opening the uploaded file for reading.

Can anyone please suggest what I can do to fix this please?

I have also disabled all added products. I have made no other modifications and this is on a forum running 4.2 PL3 installed 2 days ago on a brand new server.

    Many thanks

It could be over the maximum size set in the admin cp.

AdminCP > Attachments > Attachment Manager

    Increase the size for gif.

There are no limits for any file type so it can't be that.

Can you try switching to the "standard" attachment uploader and see what happens then?

Nope. Doesn't do anything at all. This is an animated GIF which can be uploaded to any other website.

I've edited the animated GIF with another program and resaved it, renamed and everything. Still... it won't go into the album. Very frustrating!

Weirdest thing of all.... I managed to get it first time into another album. Why is this happening? Is this some type of bug?

Check the usergroup permissions for the uswergorup of the holder of the album.

AdminCP > Usergroup Permissions > Choose Usergroup > Edit
            User Album Permissions
            Check these settings:
            Album Picture Maximum Width (pixels)
            Album Picture Maximum Height (pixels)
            Maximum Number of Album Pictures
Maximum Total File-Size of Album Pictures (bytes)
