What are you upgrading from? -

In your includes directory, delete any md5_sums*.php files EXCEPT md5_sums_vbulletin.php and try again.Comment

The md5_sums_vbulletin.php file is the only one there ...
Should I have left the old 3.8.7 in as well?

Anyone else? I'm at a loss ..Comment

Download the package again from the member area, upload all the files again, ensuring you overwrite the existing ones, then try the upgrade again.MARK.B

Please tell me - should I leave all my existing 3.8.7 files in there, and only overwrite with the new package when I want to upgrade?
When I just used the fresh vb4 files, and installed instead of upgraded, it worked fine. But I need to upgrade - I have a large database with over a million posts. Who can help me with this?Comment

I have done that a few times already. I can't see how a third time would be different.

However, if you are having difficulties still, then try backing up the old files first, then deleting the whole lot from the server, then uploading the new ones.
You will however need to either repopulate your config.php file, or use the old one out of your backup. Watch out for any custom .htaccess, robots.txt etc as well.MARK.B

Thank you - I will do that as a last resort.
There is one more thing that might be causing the problem ... I downloaded an Italian language pack, and since deleted it. Yet, I find in my admin panel many of the phrases are still in Italian. How do I completely renew my languages back to English (US)?Comment
-
Re-run the upgrade script to re-import the Master Language then go to AdminCP > Languages & Phrases > Language Manager and click on the 'Rebuild Languages] link.Comment
-
I might import another language - say English (UK) and see how it goes ... is that found on this site or vb.org?Comment
