[Forum] How to get notified when new post is created?

I have my forum set so that when a new post or thread is made then I get notified of it through email. However it only does so when I log into the forum.

How can I set it so that it does it by itself?

With the default code, you can't. the subscription system works off last login, so if you don't log in, you don't get any more notifications for that specific forum.
