[Forum] Stopping a Who's Online Troll

    Hi,

This follows on from this thread about a troll who was reporting posts relentlessly.

However, his other hobby is registering obscene usernames just so that the appear in the Who's Online section. He can do this despite being unregistered as I now have full security on new signups with people having to wait for confirmation emails from me.

He shouldn't be able to appear in Who's Online but he does. How do I stop this please?

I don't want to delete the whole section - I already did that for 'Welcome to our newest member'.

FYI he does this several times a day and has done for several months.

    Thanks

    Nick

        Have you tried:
Admin CP -> Settings -> Options -> User Registration Options:

Allow Multiple Registrations Per User: No
Verify Email Address in Registration: Yes
        Require Unique Email address: Yes
Illegal Usernames: Fill in obscene terms you want to block out from being used

If necessary, you may want to enable "Moderate New Members" for a week or so until he gives up and leaves.

          There's no such version - it's either 4.2.0 or 4.1.2?

Yep - I've done every setting. I need a way to stop unmoderated and banned members appearing in Who's Online. There isn't a setting.

Ban his IP address at the server or router level. Redirect him to Google.com.

He constantly changes IP address. My list of banned names is immense. You wouldn't believe how many ways there are to spell f.u-c_k.

I need to stop un-moderated users stop showing up in Who's Online.

                      Bamp.

There must be some easy code to insert somewhere which only allows certain usergroups to appear in Who's Online.

This was used in my other problem... can it be adapted?

                      Code:
                      <vb:if condition="is_member_of($bbuserinfo, 1,2,3)">                    <vb:if condition="$show['reportlink']">                        &nbsp;<a class="report" href="{vb:raw post.reportlink}" rel="nofollow" title="{vb:rawphrase report_bad_post}"><!-- <img src="{vb:stylevar imgdir_button}/report-40b.png" alt="{vb:rawphrase report_bad_post}" /> -->&nbsp;</a> &nbsp;                    </vb:if>

Are you deleting his accounts when they come up or just banning them? Deleting them makes it easier for him to re-register.

After several months of banning and blocking his handles and IP addresses I now ban, block and then delete them. I just need un-moderated users to stop appearing in Who's Online. Please help!

Don't delete, just ban. If you delete, he can use the same mail-address again.
