[Forum] Serious Spam Issue on my Forum

I have been having a lot of spammers attacking my Forum. I have spent time banning, both by username and IP address. I installed an Akismet Key and that slowed it down SOME. It is taking all 4 of my Mods and both me and the other administrator just to keep from being completely flooded.

Now they are using a new tactic that I haven't seen before in running Forums for nearly 10 years. They are using my own and other members IP addresses to log in. I found this out when I banned a Spammers IP address, and banned myself. When I went back and undid the ban, went back to the Spammers info and copied his IP, checked the User, I came up. Then I checked my own IP and sure enough, somehow these spammers are using our IP addresses to get in.

So, using an Akismet Key, requiring Human Verification via a numbers combination, and now banning by IP, none of it works. Having banned many by IP, I now have no idea of how many REAL members I have banned.

    What to do about this?

"requiring Human Verification via a numbers combination"

Is this part of a Question and Answer Verification?

Have you also tried something like Spam-O-Matic from vBulletin.org?

        Is that numbers combination:

        Q: 2 +7 equals >
        A: 9(nine)

                Do not use them.

Use a simple question with a simple answer such as:

                Q: Is 365 days a week? No it's a ....
                A: year
