    [Forum] Forum redesign

Can and how do I keep my forum active and online while I do things behind the scenes without the members ever even seeing it?

ie. get a new skin, add/delete mods (meaning from vbulletin.org, not people ), change around the Front page (CMS)

Would any changes automatically be reflected in the current live site? This would obviously defeat the purpose and render my original question above as a 'no' answer.

I hope I've explained myself clearly.

    Thanks!

    For the most part, yes.

Easiest way to do this is to install your board on your local machine (meaning run a server-stack like XAMPP or WAMP, then download your database and files and go from there).

That way, you can make any changes you want in a testing manner, even destroy the board entirely and no one but you will see it. Once you're ready, just apply the changes to the main site.

For doing all the work you want basically what Dustin said, although you could also have a "test site" on your actual (real) server rather then your local PC.

How ti create a test site: https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/cont...ng-A-Test-Site

If you were ONLY doing style chances you could also just create a new style and not make it accessible to users (keep it unchecked.)

Here's a variation of the question:

Can I disable/turn off the CMS to work on it offline?

What I mean is a temporary situation while changes are made. Once changes are done turn on/enable.

There is mod on vBulletin.org that allows that- I know because I just updated it for someone to work on 4.2.0.

This is a discussion forum powered by vBulletin. To find out about vBulletin, go to http://www.vbulletin.com/ .
