Ok, I just bought VB and trying to set up the Tabs. In the Navigation manager I have set up Tabs, then added menu items under the Tabs, but the menu items are not showing up on my site. What am I missing? WHen I have a Tab and add menu items to it, where the heck are the menu items supposed to show up? I assumed they would be "drop down" menus but I can't see where they are working at all. What am I doing wrong?
Menus not working, or is it just me not understanding?

The Navigation Manager does not allow for drop down tabs. However, you can make links, and or menu items that are located under the links. Just to give you an example of what I'm talking about, if you look at the top of the forum you will see tabs: What's New?, Articles, Forum, etc... Under that you will see a couple of links that are New Posts, Private Messages, FAQ... The menu items are Community (with drop down), Forum Actions (with drop down), etc. Inside those menu items are links to pages you want to place a URL to.
The Navigation Manager is helpful, but it is not perfect. I hope that helps clear it up for you. -

Thanks for the insight. So if I understand it then, adding menu items to tabs per the Navigation Manager doesn't actually add menu items to the tabs? I wonder if this is just a capability for a future release, or if they will remove that from the Nav Manager (as it is very confusing to the uninitiated)?
A second question regarding your description of the links under the tabs having dropdowns. Is this something that can be done via the Nav Manager or does it require raw manipulation of the appropriate templates?Comment

As far as the second part of you question it is all done under the Nav Manager. The answer is kind of like this: "Community" above is a menu with a drop down. When you select the drop down you will see the links to each item such as "Groups" and "Albums". Each link has to point to a new page that you created on the forum or to a thread. I'm just using this as an example:
You You create a Menu item called News. In the drop down list you may have links to forums with the following categories: Food, Travel, etc. Each link that you create places you at a forum for Food News or Travel News. Now that of course is a hypothetical situation if you are running vB Suite because you have widgets to do that for you, however, if you just have the forum software and had threads with news that would work perfect.
I hope that gives you a little better understanding of how the menu and links work.
Menu: a drop down that consists of links
Link: a URL to a particular place on the forumComment

Steps:
AdminCP >> Settings > Navigation Manager
The page will open and depending on what tabs you have they will be listed. There are no menu items listed, or links that may be under menu items. The community menu only shows up under the Tab Forums, so click the word Forums to see the menu's and links that are located under the Forums tab. In there you will see "Community" which is a menu item, but then you will see links that are located under "Community". So let's say you want to add a link under the community menu item.
On the right hand side you will see a drop down selection box. By default it will say, "Edit". If you open that drop down box you will have the choice to add a link or to move it to a different location. So let's say you wanted to add a link to another location on the site, or to a custom page you created on your site. Then you would simply copy and paste the relative target or full URL into that space. Relative targets are a little difficult to find without knowing how to navigate the templates. For example: album.php?u={userinfo.userid} would create a link to the User Album list. Usually just using a full URL will work just as well, and you do not need to worry about the Relative target.
I hope that explains it in a little more detail. I know that it is kind of confusing at first, but after you make a few things you will start to think that it is simple.Comment

Edit: I'll give it a trial run on a test board running vB 4.2 PL2 to see if it works.
Edit 2: It kind of works, but has a few things that I can't seem to get to work like the drop down tabs. I'll keep playing with it and see if I can figure anything out on it.Last edited by Syxguns; Tue 14 Aug '12, 5:48pm.Comment
