    [Forum] How correct is this?

    Upgrading from vBulletin 4.x.x

    1. Close your board via the Admin Control Panel.
    2. Delete install/install.php from your upload directory
    3. Upload all remaining files from the 'upload/' folder in the zip.
    4. Open your browser and point the URL to your forums, e.g. http://www.example.com/install/upgrade.php (where www.example.com/ is the URL of your vBulletin). Make sure to upload the files into your previous installation directory as appropriate (e.g. /forums/). The Upgrade Wizard will determine your vBulletin version and jump forward to the appropriate upgrade step.
Some steps can take a long time to process. Please be patient.
    5. If any errors occur, copy the error and please contact support. DO NOT continue with the upgrade. Doing so may cause irreversible damage to the database.
    6. Follow the instructions on the screen. Make sure you proceed until you are redirected to your Admin Control Panel. Here, you can reopen your board.

      Now my questions are
Do I have to rename admincp and modcp?
Do I have to change chmod 644 of the files?

      Thanks

You only have to rename them if you have changed them in config.php.
You would only need to chmod the files to 644 if for some reason you had changed them.

(Personally, I leave install.php in place til after the upgrade. Prevents others from accessing the admincp at the time.)

That error indicates that you still need to upload the 4.2.0 files.

Why do you need to chmod the files to 644? That's their default state.

No.. files should not be 755. Files should be 644. Folders, if you don't need them writable, are 755.

I would suggest uploading the contents of the upload directory into your forum directory, opting to overwrite existing files. Perhaps something went awry when you did it by the method you describe.

You don't have permission to access /forum/install/upgrade.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

One possibility: Have you been randomly chmodding files?

If possible, just delete the existing files (take a backup of config.php), and upload a new set.

The permission error I get really shouldn't happen if the files and folders have their default chmod.
