[Forum] attachments not deleted from file system!

    Hi,

    Is it another bug or...?
When I'm deleting attachments from AdminCP -> attachments -> Search -> select all -> Delete Selected Attachments the files still exist in file system!
My attachments storage folder is chmod 777 and chown nobody:nobody.
So what again is the problem????

Are they deleted from the forum/threads but remain in folder?
To be or not to be... Where the hell is the question????

I've never deleted any attachments that way and I just did that now to see and you're right.. The files remain in folder

I just setup the forum and only 1 attachment, even updated all counters and optimized...

Not sure what to tell ya other than you're right, files are not deleted

The files are deleted every hour with a cleanup script. Check the file system again and you will all attachments that are no longer associated with a post have been deleted assuming in been more than an hour.

I know that it should but actually the scripts dont delete files.
I ran few time Hourly Cleanup and Hourly Cleanup #2 but no success.
The files still remain the folder.

The scripts use time to determine if the files need to be deleted. So running the Hourly Cleanup manually will not do anything unless an hour has passed. Point is it's easy to assume the software is not working correctly.

Has an hour passed? Have you checked to see if the attachment is still in the file system?

Right, they don't get deleted even after clean and clean2 tasks had run many times as I found out in my test too.

You might like to provide a test post with the following.

                    1) create new post
                    2) attach two images
                    3) make sure the images can be seen by non-registered members
                    4) delete one of the attachments

I suspect you might be seeing cached images which can fool you very easily. To determine if a attachment is actually deleted you have to look at the file system.

                      Hi Andy,

In post #3 I've already replied to Merjawy that attaches are deleting from the posts but remain in file system.

                        Hi masterross,

How are you verifying the file is not being deleted?

Are you looking for the filedata.attach number under the userid folder?

                          Hi,

Yes. I'm looking on the right folder.
I've tested on vb4.1 and vb4.2. The problem is in both.
                          I'll test on vb3.8 tomorrow.

Anyway I've already created a ticket.

                          Regards!

They wont be deleted unless filedata.refcount = 0, have you checked that value ?

So you're looking at the attachments and filedata tables to get the file name?
