[Forum] All the online users are showing same IP

Hello i got a problem all the users are showing same IP addresses, i use CloudFlare & all the users online are showing not there real IP but CloudFlare or my server host IP, everything was ok until my host installs Nginx after this i started having this error message:

Wrong username or password. You have used up your failed login quota! Please wait 15 minutes before trying again

when i was trying to log in, so i have to empty the strikes via phpMyAdmin to be able to login. My host tried to install mod_rpaf for Nginx but this did not help. Than i tryed adding this line:


"$_SERVER["REMOTE_ADDR"] = ( isset($_SERVER["HTTP_X_REAL_IP"]) ? $_SERVER["HTTP_X_REAL_IP"] : $_SERVER["REMOTE_ADDR"] );"

to the top of config.php file, this did not help too. Now my host completely removed Nginx, but i still got the same problem
I use the most recent VBulletin 4.2 version. Please help. Thank you.

Did you add the line with quotation marks and all? It shouldn't have quotes around it:

You'll have to get your host to fix it then. I know a lot of people were having problems with another host doing this recently, not sure what was actually causing the issue, though.

Any suggestions? My host is very user friendly & actually he told me to contact VB support for solution.

I believe your webhost is in the wrong here, they should be forwarding the correct ip to their load balancers.

A little known change in vBulletin 4.2 is that it has built in support for this sort of thing.

You need to know two things.

The IP address that requests will be coming from, and the http variable name containing the "real" IP.

From you posts above the first of those items is the IP address you are currently seeing for all users (The Cloundfare IP) - so lets say this is 100.50.75.25 for example.
The second bit would appear to be 'HTTP_X_REAL_IP'.

In the 4.2 config file, right at the bottom, you will see this ;

/* #### Reverse Proxy IP #### 
If your use a system where the main IP address passed to vBulletin is the address of a proxy server 
and the actual 'real' ip address is passed in another http header then you enter the details here */

/* Enter your known [trusted] proxy servers here. You can list multiple trusted IPs separated by a comma.*/
//$config['Misc']['proxyiplist'] = '127.0.0.1, 192.168.1.6';

/* If the real IP is passed in a http header variable other than HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR, then you can set the name here; */

Thanks, this setting solved the problem I was having with internal proxy rewrites for CMS pages (prettier URLs), the cookie information wasn't being passed for those who logged in without clicking 'remember me'.

I didn't have an issue with dev testing using Apache 2.2 but on my live server still on Apache 1.3 I encountered the error.

That's interesting. Surprised this wasn't in the feature list, it seems a change that will be very useful to increasing numbers of people and could be considered a selling point for vBulletin.

Think he's running his forum behind CloudFlare service, had this similar issue when doing the same before seeing same IP's used in Online pages and they was all CloudFlares too. When later doing a WhoIs on them.

Thank You this helped, but is it possible to insert IP range & not just IP addresses one by one, For example i wold like to add 108.162.212.1-255 or 108.162.21~ How i can input this?
