    It should be using thumbnails. Try rebuilding your avatar thumbnails. (Admin CP -> Maintenance -> General Update Tools -> Rebuild Custom Avatar Thumbnails and Rebuild Avatar Thumbnails)

                      Make sure your avatars folders permissions are set correct. This includes the custom avatars and avatar tumbnails

                        You popped in to a thread someone else made (and whose issue is solved) and provided absolutely no information of your own, so what did you expect?

                        Are all avatars having this issue, or just a few? Are custom avatars having this issue, or just user-selectable ones? Are your customavatar/thumbs and images/avatars/thumbs directories writable by PHP?

                          I expect some answers, i had the same problem, so why make a new topic if there is already a topic with the same issue? Only my problem didnt solved with this trick.

                          thanks to Merjawy and you i could solve the problem. So thanks for the help

                          Also thanks to edQ and snakebite for answering and helping.

                              I'm having the same problem. I have rebuilt both Custom Avatar Thumbnails and Avatar Thumbnails and cleared my browser cache. The problem is not with the avatar thumbnails because they work in the CMS recent comments widget. Inspecting the elements with Firebug shows that code for the ones that work in the CMS widget is identical to the code that doesn't work in the Activity Stream:

                              CMS Widget code (works):
                              <img src="/forum/image.php?u=1&dateline=1321325596&type=thumb" alt="userx" title="userx">

                              Activity Stream code (broken):
                              <img src="/forum/image.php?u=1&dateline=1321325596&type=thumb" alt="userx" title="userx">

                              What could be causing this?

                              widgetinstance 262 (Related Topics) skipped due to lack of content & hide_module_if_empty option.
