There are several threads going back years on this subject, but no apparent, current solution. I have recurring subscriptions via PayPal. I have received errors for years for transactions unrelated to the subscriptions. Only, PayPal has just started sending me warnings that they will shut down my IPN if the errors continue. I tried removing the gateway url in the IPN field in PayPal as per other threads. It will not allow the field to be blank unless you disable IPN. If you disable it, new subscriptions fail.

"invalid_subscriptionid"
They are invalid because the purchases have nothing to do with VBulletin subscriptions. The subscriptions work fine, as long as I have the gateway specified in PayPal. But, I get errors for other purcahses unrelated to VB; and PayPal is threatening to shut down the IUPN due to these errors.Comment

This is the msg fro PayPal: Please check your server that handles PayPal Instant Payment Notification (IPN) messages. Messages sent to the following URL(s) are not being received:
http://www.blackjacktheforum.com/payment_gateway.php?method=paypal
If you do not recognize this URL, you may be using a service provider that is using IPN on your behalf. Please contact your service provider with the above information.
Once you or your service provider fix this problem, you or your service provider can resend the failed messages from the IPN History page. If this problem continues, PayPal may disable the IPN feature for your account.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this issue.
Thanks,
PayPal

That file exists on your server? I see the payment_gateway.php file is there as required. Are there any messages relating to it in the httpd or php error logs on the server?Translations provided by Google.

Sorry if I'm not explaining this well. The file exists. Subscriptions have worked for years. But, there have always been errors because there are orders via PayPal that have NOTHING whatever to do with VBulletin subscriptions. Those orders are also passed through the gateway, and rejected by VB. PayPal sees the rejections and threatens to remove IPN functionality.
Seriously, there exist several threads over years here on this subject and no answer that works. The manual says leave the PayPal IPN field blank. PayPal does not allow this.Comment

You don't have to set an IPN url in the paypal system. We pass it back correctly when we process the payment data.Comment

OK, let me explain this once again, as has been explained on this forum several times before.
1. You state that you do not have to specify an IPN url in PayPal. This is incorrect. Please stop saying this and remove it from the manual. PayPal wil not allow you to blank the field unless you disable IPN. If you do that, VB is never informed of a subscription.
2. I don't want support for payments outside the subscription system. I want VB to stop responding with errors to PayPal when it gets a message not related to VB.
Please, please read what I and several other people have said and stop repeating instructions that no longer work with PayPal.
regards,
norm

Sure you can. I've never set a paypal ipn url in my profile and I've taken and had subscriptions work forever.
It disables a generic IPN notification to notify an account of all changes. It doesn't "disable" ipn for your account.
https://developer.paypal.com/webapps...uide/IPNSetup/
We pass a Dynamic url, instead of requiring a specific one.
Note: The IPN message will always be sent to your notification URL unless receiving IPNs have been disabled. Even though you have not enabled receiving IPN messages in your Profile or you have reset your preference by turning off IPN messages, PayPal still sends IPN messages to the notification URL you specify for a specific payment. IPN messages not sent because you disabled the preference in your Profile will appear in the IPN history when you enable receiving IPNs. After they appear in the history, you can choose whether or not to resend them.Comment

You can either take my advice, or take the advice DIRECTLY from paypal, but my answer is not changing.Comment

WHAT? Let me repeat this for the fourth time. When you try to set the field blank, you get an error. I pasted that error into my previous post. You keep insisting that I change a field to blank, and PayPal says it cannot be blank. PLEASE read my posts and stop repeating advice that PayPal rejects.Comment
