    [Forum] Database Error

    Hi,

We are seeing Database Errors frequently (about 1 in 10 to 1 in 4 posts). We are looking at this with the hosting company but I have also been reading several threads here and am posting to see if I could get some assistance.

When the errors occur, I do not see an error message.

The page that we get is

    Database error
The database has encountered a problem.

    Please try the following:
    • Load the page again by clicking the Refresh button in your web browser.
    • Open the home page, then try to open another page.
    • Click the Back button to try another link.
The xxx forum technical staff have been notified of the error, though you may contact them if the problem persists.
    We apologise for any inconvenience.
A right click, look at code does not show me an error msg.
Aside from solving the issue, I'm bring this up here to get input on how to identify an db error when no msg is generated.

Any help in identifying the issue would be appreciated

      Thanks for bringing that up.

In the email I get the following msgs with the connect errors.
I am assuming that this is an issue with my hosting company. But was also hoping that the error management would be also visible in the response from the connection attempt directly in the HTML source code -- like for other errors.

      Database error in vBulletin :

I browsed your site and didn't get anything , I think it's just Mysql server going down sometimes . maybe your host is doing backup at that time.

        Good Luck

Thanks, it is an intermittent error that suggests it is, as you note, host related -- the sever is dropping connections.

Yeah, the error page now only shows the MySQL error in the source if it can verify that you are an administrator.
