This problem seems to have appeared since my upgrade to 4.1.10.
When users click on the BOLD / Italic / Underline buttons (any one of them) the following characters appear:

I also receive this anomaly with a default style. I have not added any plugins since upgrade, and I have a true minimum of plugins installed at all. Just to be safe, I disabled plugins, and this still happens.
I would guess it's some kind of CHARSET anomaly?
This is what I get for the Query: SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'char%'
