Well it finally happened... I exploded my forum. And when I say "I", it was with generous assistance from my web hosting company who changed their hosting system, told customers they had 14 days, and then began wiping files after 10 days. After repeated attempts, and refusals or inability for them to restore the files from a backup image, I have started over.
My forum is modest and low-traffic but has several hundred participants and I would very much like to restore it for the community.
I do have a recent sql back up file that was created with phpMyAdmin. I have now completely re-installed vBulletin version 4.1.10. I am not even sure what version we were running previously, but I believe it was 3.x as I don't recall upgrading.
So I have migrated to new servers and hosting, reinstalled vBulletin 4.1.10 and it appears to be up and running.
Is there a way to simply restore my forum content (members/posts etc) while maintaining the latest version and look which I prefer? I have tried "restoring the database" "importing the database" etc with my sql file but have received the expected timeout issues (db is about 60mb) and have also tried my new hosting company's built in "SQL" restore wizard, which just hangs.
It seems my attempt worked partially because it created a database error in the admin cp and changed the admin section back to my old forum style, but I am reinstalling 4.1.10 from scratch again after I make this forum post.
any advice would be appreciated, thank you, and I fully admit I am a bit of a noob to these kinds of forum problems so please go easy on me!
thank you.
btw here are my server/sql.php specifications:
