    Upgrade to MySQL 5.1 and forum is now broken

    I upgraded MySQL from 5.0 to 5.1 and now my forum is broken. Not completely but everything is messed up looking and even the admin control panel is broken. Help?

    I'm actually getting server not found on your site....a MySQL upgrade should not cause that. I would speak to your hosts.

      I am the host! This has never happened before.

      I recently upgraded apache and PHP with no problems. This morning I upgraded MySQL and only the vBuletin part of my site ran into a problem.

      I have the forum turned off at the moment and am about to attempt a reinstall of 4.2.2.

      It looks like the variables are not being replaced with the names.

      Example: activity.php link is not named activity but is instead labeled "#vbtab_whatsnew#"

        Unless we can see your site it's going to be very difficult to offer any advice.
        Reinstalling is unlikely to be the solution if the issues are related to a MySQL upgrade.

            It's loading now, but it seems to be missing its language.

            Try re-importing the master language.

                I suggest to check the my.cnf file (if you host you mysql server) for deprecated system variables. There are some differences between 5.0 and 5.1 versions.

                  Import the relevant language file, tell it to create a new language, then set that as the site's default.

                    When I go to Languages and Phrases -> download/upload Languages I get a box stating "Invalid Language Specified" and no option to do anything. Even the text on the buttons is missing.

                    In fact vb_language is empty in my database.

                      I pulled the data directly from a previous backup for the vb_languages table and I can now use the back end and overall it looks correct but it also looks like serious data is missing or corrupted. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction with the language information.

                        We have gone (over time) 5.0 -> 5.1 -> 5.5 and now -> 5.6
                        Always backup; but no issues
