Clear CMS cache cron

Im afraid I cannot replicate that in 4.1.11 by any method I can think of.

While in the article, if I post comment, it gets added and both counts are updated.

If I post a comment directly in the comments thread, and then refresh the article, the comment shows, and the counts are updated.

If I put the article into the edit screen, and then post a comment in the comments thread, and then save the article, it all displays correctly (comments, counts, and the edited article).

I have no idea what you are doing, but I cannot think of any other test.

I use 4.1.11 , I have this problem too.

Left Browser is Firefox , Right Browser is Google Chrome.

Article page in firefox , comment counts in upper right is 33 , but down left is 34. (I use Firefox add the #34 comment.)
But Chrome show comment count is 33 , and it's can't display the newest comment #34. (refresh browser is not work.)






When I use Admincp "Clear System Cache" , both browsers show comments count : 34 , and Chrome show newest comment correctly.






I use 2 member ID to post 34 test comments.
It's not till comments #34 start the error.
#1x , #2x .... occur several times.
I found Clear System Cache can fix it.
I thought I could use cron job to get this done.

I don't know why ??
I just use Google search "Clear System Cache" & comment , and i find this post.
I think it's maybe a bug need to fix.

You will see that the top comment count does not match the bottom comment count, also a edit i made to the article does not show up. After i clear the system cache via admin cp both comment counts match and the article edit shows up.

I have the same problem with 4.1.12 PL1.


Here on the front page the number of comments is correct.






Clicking on Read More the number of comments is incorrect.








Scrolling down to the actual comments and the count is correct.

Same problems so how do I set the CMS cache to clear more frequently or set a cron?

This problem still exists in 4.2 for me as well. My readers are even leaving comments that don't appear right away. If they log out they can see the new comments, but logging back in the comments disappear until I clear the system cache in the control panel.

This is really annoying.

Same for me. anyone that has the ability to add articles hates this software because they can never understand how to fix typos seen after an article has been saved. They don't understand whats wrong, "why can they fix a typo?" when all it is is the cache. So, all this does is loose clients you told can add articles.
Goofy.

I just upgraded to a new server with CentOS 7, Apache v2.4.6, 5.5.47-MariaDB, PHP 5.4.16, with vB 4.2.2 PL4 and I still have this issue.

There has to be some way round this either through a workaround cron job that clears the system cache, or a config change or a vB update.

Anyone have an idea?

I pasted screenshots back in post #18.

The number of comments for a front page article is always correct on the front page. However, when I click on the article, the number of comments displayed in the upper right corner is frequently lower than the front page count.

Clearing system cache clears up this discrepancy.

Hi Paul - I'm currently running version 4.2.2 PL4 and have had this issue with all the versions from 4.1 to now. The only way I know how to replicate this is to post an article and let people comment over time. The site will eventually experience the issue.

Maybe it would help to know what clearing system cache does that makes it resolve the issue temporarily.

It should just be truncating the 'cache' table in the database. You can test this by loading that table up in phpMyAdmin, clearing the cache in AdminCP then refreshing the table - it should now be empty.

The Hourly Cleanup scheduled task should be doing this anyway (for expired cache items). Is that running OK?

The Hourly Cleanup scheduled task is running, but doesn't seem to clear the right cache to fix the issue. Perhaps the CMS Hourly Cleanup is the correct one for this issue?

The cleanup only clears expired data, what you are reffering to is not expired.
