We have checked the server load and it is around .32 and reindexed the forum and even turned off the advert system. It just seems like it is taking forever to load threads and posts where as the admin panel and anything in the admin panel is wickedly fast. What could be mucked up to cause such an issue?

If so, check that your scheduled tasks are running properly under Scheduled Tasks -> Scheduled Task Manager. The last run times should be fairly recent for most of them. They all should run at least once per day.
