Best way to backup vBulletin database?

Hello, we recently installed a new vBulletin forum. I am going to be moving it to another URL soon, and need to learn how to backup the database so that I can import it into the new URLs database. I have tried doing this but always get errors. It seems pretty straight forward but I guess I’m doing something wrong.
Is there a tutorial or instruction sheet that shows how to backup a vBulletin forum database? I looked around but didn’t see anything. I know how to back up the servers. It’s just the database that’s tripping me up. Thanks.

The best way is via command line using mysqldump via ssh.

Export:
mysqldump --opt -u -p dbname > /path/to/save/db.sql

Put your username after the -u, the -p is for the password & you will be prompted for it once you hit enter using the above command.

Dumping a DB via PhP script is not wise or suggestible as PhP can & does timeout based on the server PhP / fastcgi settings etc.


Import:
mysql -u -p dbname < /path/to/backup/db.sql
