Had a problem today with the site banning most users, presenting the message the administrator had banned the ip address, blah blah. I went into the database and modified the settings>banip field to be empty as described in multiple posts from vB support staff. That did not work. I also set the banenable field to 0 with no luck. After much more reading I found a post from Lynne indicating there were changes required in the datastore>options field. Once I followed her instructions to edit out the banned ip list stored there we restored access to our site.
So, what is the purpose of the settings>banip field if the real control is being maintained by datastore>options? Why don't your instructions give us some indication this must be addressed as well? Why leave us hanging out here, blowing in the wind?
