I'm looking for a way to basically export all the attachments in my forum (stored in DB) to my local disk as files. I'm not interested in going through the database->file system conversion. Is there a way to do this?

So you want to not use the only tool that exsists for doing it, and does it perfectly well?Comment

The built in way is your best option
you should also store your attachments in the file system anyways for performance reasons.Comment

There are advantages to leaving the files in the DB as well.Comment

Actually, it does copy the files to the filesystem. You have to finalize the move before the files in the db are purged.
Loco the only advantage if is you dont have distributed frontends and the attachments dont point to one server. For most users, this isn't an issue.Comment

That sure isn't many. However over time it could grow to be a huge number. I have over 300,000 attachment in my forum.
The only advantage is that you don't have to worry about backing up that directory. But having the attachments in the database is only practical if you have only a few attachments.
BTW how are you backup up your database now? Which program you using?Comment

by CraigIf I change it in the admincp to store attachments into the filesystem, does it transfer attachments that are existing in the db to the file system?
