[Forum] Switching servers - a couple of questions

I am about to switch servers for my forum. The MySQL database associated with this installation is over 30GB. I already have the versions required of PHP, MySQL and Apache. My question is:

What other software (such as the character generator software that keeps the spambots from registering, and image auto-resizing, etc) do I need on the new server, and what version of each?

ImageMagick, or GD in php would be recomended.

Is one better than the other? Are they mutually exclusive? Do they do different things?

ImageMagick has far far wider support of images and doc types, as well as overall better font support.
Its one or the other.
