    [Forum] Database Backup

    Hello everyone,

I'm using vBulletin 4.2 PL3 at my old server. I investigated about 3 months of work in it and now I had to change the servers. I never worked with vbulletin before so I thought it would be enaught to take a backup with phpmyadmin. So I downloaded the backup and imported it to my new server. To my surprise, a 404 not found error came up when I went at my board. The URL Path had changed too and it wasn't accesable from other paths.

Any idea how I could use the backup anyway? Would it be possible if I configure my subdomain like the paths in my backup? (currently /httpdocs/board, old /httpdocs/subdomains/board)

    Thanks for your help

Unfortunately not knowing everything about your site, backing up via phpmyadmin is a big NO NO, due to many settings on the server, backing up db's should never be done via a php based script, as the settings of php can cause it to timeout while executing the script.

If you was previously running your site from a subdomain, ie forums.yourdomain.com, then you would need to reset your URL settings in the admincp.

From what you posted, you was running it on a plesk server, both old & new, did you recreate the subdomain in plesk when you set the site up on the new server?

If your not able to reset it, you can change the domain url in the settings table of the db.

Well, the old website was managed by ehcp, if you mean that. Now I got Plesk.
I will try to change the domain url now manually in the settings table, thanks for your help.

Edit: I may should say that the url (board.mysite.com) is still the same, only the path has been changed. I don't see any path's in the settings...

There is no path setting for vb in the admincp, you can set a path in the config.php file, but thats not normally needed & should not be set in this case.

Typically plesk uses httpdocs for its setup, so i would guess regardless of ehcp managing it for you, that the old server was still plesk.

Did you create a subdomain in plesk on the new server?

After creating the subdomain via plesk, simply move the vb files to the proper folder, then you should be fine.

The only paths that may need updating is if you store attachments, avatars, or other board images in the file system instead of the database.

In those cases, after the forum has been moved, log into the Admin CP -> Attachments - > Attachment Storage Type and change the path.

Same for Admin CP -> Avatars -> User Picture Storage type if stored in the file system.

If either or both are stored in the database, ignore them, nothing to do.
