[Forum] Database error when editing post?

I got this from a user today:
Whenever I try to edit a thread (one that has a lot of content), I almost always get a "Database Error" show up, and I have to try again. The more content in the post, the longer it takes to update the post. Today, I've spent about 30 minutes trying to update it, and I still haven't been able to.

    Here is what happens:
    1) I click on 'edit post'
    2) I make my changes
    3) I click 'save'
    4) A box pops up that says Database Error (picture 1)
    5) I have to click 'Cancel changes' and do this again.

Sometimes, instead of the pop-up box, I will get what you see in picture 2.

How do you suggest I resolve this issue?

    Thanks

I have been having an issue trying to merge a large number of post from an RSS feed. the first issue came when the mother topic somehow merged with another large thread.
I have been able to do other merges but still get an error when I try to mess with this one. I am afraid to upgrade with this corupted peice.

I have even deleted the users and tried to delete orphaned post and it persist. i get a time out each time.
I have done much larger merges in the past on 3.86 without issue.

Tell that user to view the page source when getting the db error, copy/paste the whole db error and send it to you and then you post it here for us to see it.

"MySQL Error : MySQL server has gone away"

You would need to contact your host about that issue.
