[Forum] Mod-Rewrite Friendly URLs do not work

If I set them to Mod-Rewrite Friendly URLs, the homepage goes to /content and displays 404 not found error. Do I need to have some .htaccess file in the root or what? If so, please let us have a sample htaccess file.

    TIA

Yes, if you change it to Mod-Rewrite URLs, then you need to have mod rewrite rules and those go in the .htaccess file. There is one available in the do_not_upload/rewrite directory. You will need to be able to view invisible files in order to see it.

If I post CSS and you don't know where it goes, throw it into the additional.css template.

I uploaded the .htaccess file to the server. However, the page is still marking up URLs like /forum.php, /blog.php, etc. I thought it would markup as /forum, /blog, etc.

You need to edit it to suit your own needs.

And you changed the Friendly URL Type in your options also? Do you have a link to your site? Also, if you are using sub-domains, you have to make a lot more changes than just the example .htacess that came with the software.
