Promote to Article Setting?

"Promote to Article" only works when the usergroup is given "can create" and "can publish" permissions to the home page. However, this also gives full edit permissions to the homepage to that usergroup, which is problematic.

If you do not give the usergroup the permissions above to the homepage, but they have permissions to other sections of the CMS, they still see the "Promote to Article" link but get an error message. Usergroups should be able to promote blogs to the sections that they do have the proper permissions for.

At the very least usergroups should not see the "Promote to Article" link if they do not have permissions to promote. Anyone have a solution or workaround for this? Does the promote functionality code have to be removed?

If we turn FrontPage of CMS to off, though a usergroup can't publish and getting only permission error or other like one without all(Create, Editor, Publish) ON.
Without gathering the contents at HOME Section or each TOP Section, we could publish because there is from its nested section, so this permission should be separate per section.

We'll have to wait for v5 and pay to get get what should have been in v4 from the beginning. I keep saying this but I don't believe anyone on the development team actually runs a news content driven site so they don't know the basic needs of a real CMS.

Sorry to bump this but would rather that be the case than duplicate an existing issue.

I have just come across this bug as well - our scenario is:

• vBulletin 4.1.5pl1 (not latest pl, but as I understand it the issue is not fixed in latest patch level 4.1.6)
• Section hierarchy is: Home > Section1
• Usergroup FooU has 'create content' CMS perms set for Section1
• Usergroup FooU has 'can publish' CMS perms set for Section1
• Usergroup FooU has NO 'create content' CMS perms set for Home
• Usergroup FooU has NO 'can publish' CMS perms set for Home

Result is users in FooU usergroup cannot promote posts to articles from the forum into Section1. I would suggest this is a bug and not a feature, setting an editorial usergroup such as FooU to have editorial control over Section1 should allow that usergroup to promote articles into Section1 from the forum without FooU needing to have full editorial control over the Home parent section.
