Either your mysql server has gone down or the database/connection details in config.php are incorrect.

thanks mark.b i am getting the error for the last 1 hour only... now the site is opening correctly I did not changed any thing.

Just an issue with the MySQL server then....possibly your hosts did some maintenance and needed to reboot it.
