[Forum] MySQL has gone away

A few days ago, we moved servers (shared hosting) and since then, there's been a few sporadic MySQL errors, when checking the database errors log file see below:

I guess this is happening when the RSS News feed is being called from the CMS widget.
Along with the server move, we also moved from MySQL Version 4.1.22 to Version 5.0.90-community if that makes any difference.

It's not happening all the time, just every couple of days it seems...
Any ideas please, or is this a host issue?

Another problem this morning so, as expected, it hasn't gone away, at least the problem hasn't.
Didn't get these errors before under MySQL Version 4.1.22
I've raised the issue with the host.

The most common cause of this error is an oversold shared server. Especially if the error moves around to different modules. Use cpanel to check server load.

Thanks for the info. I'd recently moved from server to another before these errors, this is now a lot quieter.
The errors themselves have now come to a stop, fingers crossed this "should" be solved

Last couple of weeks have been active again, as far as these errors are concerned.
They all stem from an RSS Newsfeed widget placed on the CMS.

The host has since upped the interactive_timeout to 28800 up from an obscure low figure which I can't remember now
wait_timeout is currently set to 30 : so I've asked them to up this to 28800 - see if this solves it.

It appears that the script that is trying to run is taking more than 30 CPU seconds and this is causing the script to fail. Our Terms of service state:
"Banned Scripts

1. We do not allow scripts that requires more than 8Mb of memory space, more than 30 CPU seconds, or use more than 5% of all available shared system resources at any time."

If it is working sometimes and not at others it could be because of load on the server. If you continue to experiance problems with this you should look into our dedicated servers or VPS.net service so that you can be the only one using the space and have more control over these settings.

So, ok, this is a simple RSS feed on the content.php page, that, ran quite happily for months on an oversold server (CPanel1). Now after moving to a quieter server (CPanel36) of same spec, why is that occuring? Anyone?
And, wtf is up with an RSS feed that takes 30 seconds to pull results?

Ah, sod it. It seems I'm gonna have to pull the RSS feed off the page entirely.

I'm glad you were able to track it down to a specific script. You're right - the solution is to scrap it. Perhaps it's delays from the rss source causing the trouble. Anyway, people can use their own rss readers to get that info.

I don't think it's the RSS Widget, because I've had two of them for a long time. Thanks for getting me to look though, because one isn't working and it seems they went and changed the URL on me a couple months ago!
