      I experienced the same issue:

      Check "Use facebook avatar": "Could not find phrase 'Upload failed due to failure writing temporary file."

      Uncheck "Use facebook avatar": No Error, Connection Completed.

          Need to change a config on our server.

          This should be addressed. Please post if it occurs again.

            If you experience this issue with your vBulletin 4.0.3 release, please check your /etc/php.ini file and make sure the temp directory is configured correctly.
            upload_tmp_dir = /your/server/temp/directory

                    I'm getting this same error with 4.0.4 when I try to connect with facebook. I contacted my host and showed them this thread. They said they made all the necessary changes, but things still do not work.

                      I just started having this issue in this past week, if it was ever an issue before noone reported it in the past 9 months.

                      Any ideas? Works if I uncheck the box, I don't know where to find and make that file/folder writable. I do not see it in my files anywhere.
