[Forum] Where is Backup Database Option in Vbulletin 4 ?

Yesterday, I just upgrade my forum to Vbulletin 4.0.2 Suite. Today, I went into the MAINTENANCE OPTIONS to backup my forum database like I used to in Vbulletin 3, but I don't see the DATABASE BACKUP OPTION under MAINTENANCE anymore. Anyone know where that option at? Or Vbulletin 4 doesn't have one?

Thank Anthony89. But I don't know why they remove this great feature. This is so odd. I know we could using phpmyadmin on the server to backup the database, but I like to using it in Forum ACP. It is quicker and easy. I hope their going to put back this feature in the vbulletin 4.0.3.

        It's with the roadmap.
s.molinari - I would like to ask all customers to definitely feedback issues with the software and be specific with the issues, but to basically suck-up what happened in the past and try to just look forward.

It was removed because backing up with a PHP script like that in the AdminCP or phpMyAdmin can result in PHP timeouts errors and an incomplete backup file. The most reliable method of backing up and restoring a database is with shell access via ssh. Please see the instructions here:

          Backup:

          Restore:

P.S. If you don't have shell access, some people have also reported success with these scripts:

          MySQLDumper:

          MySQLHotxcopy:

          Bigdump:
          Vote for:

          - Admin Settable Paid Subscription Reminder Timeframe (vB6)
          - Add Admin ability to auto-subscribe users to specific channel(s) (vB6)

Trevor,I believe that very few people have shell access to the database.
It would be in the best interest of vB to design a good, inbuilt backup system into vB4.

vB5 is unequivocally the best forum software, but not yet...

While the backup option in the acp is a ''must'' for small forums I wouldn''t recommend to use it for medium and/or large forums. In such cases, the other ways listed by Trevor Hannant above are the best way to go.

It is a good hack from Paul but:
Since I did not write the original version, but have modified & adapted it, support of this modification may be limited.
...or scrapped. Can we expect anyone to update his/her hack forever for free?
Could vB scrap the backup function without saying a word about it?

Well I would think that there are more smaller boards than big ones...and usually a big board owner would have access to the DB anyway!

I would like to see this added back for smaller boards! It was quick, easy and perfect for noobs like me!

Ya, except that, like the man just reminded you, it simply wouldn't work a lot of the time. Of course, if you never tried to recover using one of those backups, you probably never noticed it.

My site backup isn't exactly huge at 2.5gb, but that's large enough that even the usual cpanel backup options won't work. Oops wait, we're talking about db backups? Those need to be done daily and there's no way you're going to go in and hit those buttons on a regular basis. If so, then just use the cpanel db backups daily. Same number of button pushes.
