Here is a page from the manual about troubleshooting blank or 'white' pages: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/blank_pages
(And yes, the issue about search has been posted about a few times in the site feedback forum.)

I turned display_errors on and this is what I get:
Fatal error: Call to a member function get_field() on a non-object in C:\wamp\www\mifbody\vbulletin\vb\legacy\post.php on line 606
I disabled hooks and the error message is still present.
Code:public function can_search($user) { if (in_array($this->get_thread()->get_field('forumid'), $user->getUnsearchableForums())) { return false; } return $this->can_view($user); }

Try disabling your modifications/plugins and see if you still have this problem.
Note: To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit config.php and add this line right under <?php
PHP Code:define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

I don't know what the issue could be if you have disabled all your plugins and you are using default files. You may want to put in a support ticket.

Sometimes, rebuild search may need to be repeated. I did this after upgrading to 4.01 from 3.8x but it still wasn't returning all results. When a thread I knew existed wasn't showing up in 4.02 I tried another index rebuild - this time it seems to be working (or at least better than it was previously).
Hint: Make sure you empty the index first before rebuilding - link to do that is on the rebuild index screen. Also be warned that when they say this is server intensive they're not kidding. If you can, extend your PHP memory limit and scripts time-out and try to do it at an off-peak time for your forum.Comment

When I rebuilt it on my test site with 800K posts, I checked the database to make sure it went through everything. Sometimes it 'stops' and so you have to start it again.

I and my forum members are having this problem too where doing a search of random members posts results in sporadic results. Say I do a search of posts made by member X, another of my admins will do the same search and we will get totally different results. I will get say 10 pages where the other admin will only get 4. Thing is, nether of us will get all of the posts, only some, as I know there are more than 250 post made by the member we did the search for. I did empty the search index and am nw in the process of rebuilding it, but it is taking forever. As stated above, it does time out after a while so I will then re-enter the number where it left off and continue the search, but how many times is it expected this will be required, and is there a way to determine how many there are so I at least can have an idea how far I have left to go? At present I am up to 211000 and I have had to restart it at least 2 dozen times. I've been working, as time permits, on this for three days now, mainly in the late evenings when activity is low.Comment

mcharley -- yeah, this is a real issue. Digitalpoint spent 4 entire days doing this using vbulletin's system and only a minute using sphinx. I wish I had the expertise to install Sphinx myself.Plan, Do, Check, Act!Comment

Oh boy....guess I better stock the refridge, huh?
I know there has to be a way to determine just how many posts my forum has. I've been looking in the CP and the closest I came so far was under statistics, but in there I only see how many posts are made each day. Certainly not going to break out the calculator for that one since my forum has been up since 2005...lolComment
