[Forum] Images in database or file sytem?

Is there a negative aspect to storing images (profile pics, avatars, signatures images, etc) in the file system as opposed to the database?

I have plenty of space in the file system and only 300 Mb available for the database without extra expense.

    Thank you

For security and performance purposes, it is recommended that you store attachments and images/avatars etc. in the file system.

Security wise, you don't want a bad attachment in your database, nor do you want it to be cluttered and therefore making the database inefficient for performance.

Has anyone performed this before? I have the directions in front of me, but we all know that there is always a hidden problem.

Nothing will go wrong. Besides, you do daily db backups anyway, right?
