You will need to upgrade your vBulletin 4.1.11 to vBulletin 4.2.5 to work on new servers. Make sure the server is only using PHP 7.1.X at the most.

4.1 to 4.2 adds things like the activity stream and navbar manager.
No further releases of vB4 are planned though. All development is now focused on vB5.

hi, right; i mean is vb5 alot better than 4? thinking of upgrading. i was pleasantly surprised the host migration & upgrade was so easy, zero hassles. i have multi-php on server so i can use any version. big picture everyones on social media, are forums still useful? i like the control & focus, but its a fb/instagram/youtube world.. just curious if i should revive my long-dormant forum..

I would say this depends on the forum and your drive for content. Social media (Facebook, Instagram, etc..) are primarily focused on shortform content. That is short content created in the moment. A system like vBulletin would focus more on discussion and long form content. This is content that is more meaningful over the long term. So depending on your topic niche, a forum can be much more worthwhile than social media. Both social media sites and vBulletin allow you to embed video from sites such as YouTube.

vBulletin 5 is a different beast than vBulletin 4. vBulletin 5 is a community driven CMS with some social media features. vBulletin 4 is primarily forum software. Which is better depends on your needs.
