STable version of Vbulletin forums

it has been a while, i was away... wanted to know,
1. what is the best and stable version for Vbulletin4 forums ( just forums) - for fresh installs and why ?
2. what is the best and stable version for vbulletin5 forums and why
which one to choose... if a newbie is going to handle it..(seeing the docs and do the work)

4.2.5 and 5.3.4 (shortly to be 5.4.0) respectively.

For a new forum you should use vB5. vB4 is no longer being developed.
