PHP/MySQL versions for vB 4.2.3 PL2

Will vBulletin 4.2.3 PL2 run properly on the following system software?

CentOS 7
PHP 7.1
MySQL 5.6

If not, what is the higher version of each of the above will it run properly on?

4.2.3 will work with php 5.6 but no higher. You would need 4.2.5 for php 7.1.

Thank you for your reply, I'm guessing a 4.2.3 to 4.2.5 upgrade is fairly easy/seamless? Will 4.25 work with PHP 5.6?

Would you recommend this upgrade path that involves a server move:

Get new server with PHP 5.6 installed,
Transfer 4.2.3 vBulletin to new server
Upgrade vBulletin to vB 4.2.5
Upgrade server to PHP 7.1

Another question, if I upgrade my vB on the new server to 4.2.5 (prior to going live on the new server) can I then transfer over my current vB 4.2.3 database to the new server and upload it to my 4.2.5 version without issue or would that not work? (I am guessing it won't)

The databases wouldn't be compatible, they should only be used with the correct version files.

It is a fairly straightforward upgrade.
4.2.5 will work with php 5.6, that's also its minimum version.

If you are moving server, I would upgrade vB first and fully test so you know it's working before the move. You'll need to b running php 5.6 though or th euograde will not run.

Watch out for third party add ons if you are using php 7. A fair number of add ons will break as they won't be compatible. May be worth setting up a test copy of the site on the new server first- running php 7 - and upgrading that, then testing. Worse case scenario if you have add ons that are essential and they break, is to stick with php 5.6 for now. Which actually is what I have done for exactly that reason.

Finally, back up the database before you start. Absolutely essential.

Thank you, I didn't think the database would work but figured I'd ask.

My current server is PHP 5.5 so can't upgrade to vB 4.2.5 unless I upgrade the PHP first.

Sounds like the best thing to do is have them put PHP 5.6 on the new server and then move 4.2.3 to my new server and upgrade to 4.2.5 there and just stick with PHP 5.6.

Yes that is your best option given the current php version.
