If you log out and immediately back in then yes it will be blank. That's always been the case. It's because there have been no new posts since your last session ended.

What are you expecting it to show there?

If a new post was made it used to appear there until you clicked Mark Forums Read but now it just says there are no posts to display.

What did you have as the thread marking setting?

This has been removed in 4.2.4 and Automatic Database Marking is now used for everyone. This will result in the behaviour I described.

Database marked as far as I know which is what it says right now.

So I make a new post & then click New posts expecting to see it there but it says there are no new posts. Is that right?

If YOU make a new post, then by definition you have read it...so no, you won't see it in new posts as it's no longer new.

You would need to make a new post with a different account, then you would see it.

New Posts has always been badly named, it is really "Unread Posts". In fact technically it is "Threads With Unread Posts" but that is a bit long for the navbar.

Personally I have always preferred "Today's Posts", which by default only shows to guests, but I changed this.
This gives you a list of threads udated in the past 24 hours. Thread with unread posts show bold, threads with no unread posts show in normal (non-bold) font.

None of this has changed though. It's been like this since vB2.

I'm still getting feedback that New Posts has changed in some way & that it used to only show a list of unread posts or nothing but now it's showing the output you get from What's New & Recent Activity. I'm at a bit of a loss with it.

There have been no changes to it other than the forcing of the database marking setting, my suspicion is you had something other than that set, and the change has altered the behaviour slightly. If so, there's nothing that can be done, as all the other settings are obsolete and were removed.

It should behave as I described above.
