    What version of php do you have? vb4.2.3 requires php 5.4.0 or greater.

            As the error states, your php version is too low. You need to ask your hosts to upgrade to at least php 5.4.

                My host upgraded to php 5.5.26 but the error persists:

                Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION in /public_html/includes/functions.php on line 5313

                  Hmm...did you confirm the php version (like with View PHP Info under Maintenance in the admincp)?

                      OK, then for whatever reason your php didn't get upgraded. I think sometimes you have to restart your web server for changes to take effect, if you have any control over that. Otherwise you need to contact your host again.

                          The host updated the version of php and I managed to upgrade to version 4.2.3 but, a new problem, attached images are no longer being displayed.
                          Does anyone know what this is?

                            Try rebuilding attachment thumbnails under AdminCP > Maintenance > General Update Tools.

                              I did it but not decided.

                              This version 4.2.3 was the most problematic version, I have various problems after the installation:

                              - problems with icons;
                              - various forums, post, with topics ERROR 500 - Internal Server Error;
                              - And worst of all, hundreds of attachments and thumbs disappeared

                              My host updated the PHP version 5.5
