Hi all,

I am about to upgrade a fairly large vbulletin 3.6.8 board to vbulletin 4.2. Had a few questions with some problems i am encountering as i do a dry run of the process.

1. I am using AME plugin that uses [MEDIA][/MEDIA] bbcode for videos and images. What is the recommended way to address this problem? I want to convert all the old bbcodes into the new [VIDEO] tag that vbulletin provides. I no longer want to use that plugin in the new version.

2. What is the best way to solve style problems when you upgrade?

1. You'd need to contact the author of the plugin. There is no conversion process from the old bbcode to ours. AME is still a thing from vb.org for vB4 though.
2. Write it from scratch.

If before i run the upgrade process to vb4, I replace all [MEDIA][/MEDIA] in the database with URL bbcode, will the upgrade process convert those url bbcode into video bbcodes?

I don't know how easy that be, but I don't see why it wouldn't parse it if you get it right.

If anyone else is having the same problem with old [media] tags, here is the two step solution:

1. Use cleaner.php under impex/tools/ to convert old [media] and [/media] tags into [ame] and [/ame] tags.
2. After you upgrade to vb 4.X you need to install AME 3.X plugin from vbulletin.org and in the admincp AME nav, go under tools and select convert old [ame] tags.

The plugin will convert the old [ame] tags into vbulletin video tags. Depending on how large your board is, this process might take hours, if you have a lot of youtube videos embedded in your posts. In my case, my board had over 100K youtube videos alone.
