[Forum] Installing version 4.1.1 (first time user)

I'm a first-time user of vBulletin, trying to install version 4.1.1. When I try to follow their instructions, including typing in my website with /forums/install/install.php after that, I get a 404 error and no page comes up.

I followed all the directions to the letter to the best of my knowledge, and I'm wondering if I need to make changes beyond what is said in order to get it to work properly.

Thanks for any help in advance.

That means the file is not there. Make sure you uploaded the files to the correct location and you are using the correct URL.

Thanks for your help. It appears my problem is I didn't create the MySQL database, which I thought was done automatically. Where do I transfer that to once it's complete?

          Thanks.

This is my first time doing this, and I figured I was doing something wrong.

After I put in my customer number, I get the following error (this is copied directly from the install page):

            Startup Errors

Due to the following errors, the install/upgrade can not continue:
            • Error description:
            • The database has failed to connect because you do not have permission to connect to the server. Please confirm the values entered in the includes/config.php file

I have made multiple adjustments, including putting some items back to how they appeared in config.php originally, yet I can't move past this point.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

have you created a database for the install?..

Yes I did create one, and put that into the config folder.

The most likely cause of this error is that the info in your config.php file is wrong or your db user does not have full permissions to this database. Please read this for all the known causes of this error:
