Try reuploading the file. If that doesn't work, look in adminfunctions.php on line 471 and see if there's any extra characters in there.

Apologies, meant to add files as well as database as that's not in the default code so either you've added this or it's been inserted maliciously.

I did this several times to no avail

You do the following

- Delete all products
- Delete Styles other than the default
- Copy the database
- Raising the files by c Pannell compressed and then decompressing

Reaches the upgrade process, but slip in step 1 comes to me this error you mentioned ..
I've tried more than once to avoid mis-but without success

Is that code still in your adminfunctions.php file? If so, you have a corrupted file. Download a new copy from the members area and upload it again.
