    You can go straight there.

    The process is essentially the same, however you need to make sure you move all the vB3 files out of the forum folder before the upgrade, EXCEPT image folders such as avatars, attachments etc, if you store them in the file system.

    You'll also need to make a new config file.

    Here are my instructions for upgrading vB5.
    vB3 / vB4 to vB5 Upgrade Instructions
    ****BACK UP THE DATABASE & FILES FIRST****

    1. You need to remove all vB3 / vB4 files and folders out of the way first, (except attachments, avatars etc if you're storing these on the server).

    2. Download and unzip the vBulletin 5 files.

    3. You need to rename this file:

    htaccess.txt

    To:

    .htaccess
    (Note the 'dot' at the start)

    4. You need to rename this file:

    /config.php.bkp

    To:

    /config.php

    Then, you need to rename this file:

    /core/includes/config.php.new

    To:

    /core/includes/config.php

    Then, in that file, you need to complete the following fields:

    $config['Database']['dbname'] = 'forum';
    Change forum to whatever your database name is.

    $config['Database']['technicalemail'] = 'dbmaster@example.com';
    Change the email address to your own.

    $config['MasterServer']['username'] = 'root';
    Change root to the database username

    $config['MasterServer']['password'] = '';
    Enter the database password inside the '' marks.

    All other fields should be left as default, unless your database is on a separate server, in which case this will need changing:

    $config['MasterServer']['servername'] = 'localhost';

    5. Upload all files to your server

    6. Browse to yourforumpath.com/core/install/upgrade.php.

    7. Enter your customer number and the upgrade will proceed.

    8. Delete the /core/install directory after the upgrade has finished.

      hello

      i took a buckup of my vb 3.8.11 as security, i created a database and i put my buckup in it, i created a new blank database and i set my vb 4.2.5 in, then I modify my vb4.2.5 confing file on the database of my buckup, and then I use upgrad.php, at the end it appears the forum vb4.2.5 cpanel side correctly but side forum index no, look at the photo
      the install folder is removed completely;

        You need to follow my instructions above precisely.

        I also mentioned that you need to make a new config file, you cannot use ANY vB3 or vB4 files with vB5.

          hello

          before I understood that it is necessary to go through vb4 for upgrad to vb5, now I have removed all vb, vb3 and vb4,
          I created a blank database and I planted my vb3.8.11 buckup in it ;
          then I configured my vb5 config file to this database created to install vb5 on this database,
          the result appears the forum vb5 virgin without buckup without my forum vb3
          i d'ont know what to do
          thank you

            That means you ran install.php, not upgrade.php.

            install.php will wipe the database and install from scratch.

            You'll need to create the backup again and then run upgrade.php.

                  You cannot retrieve your style. vBulletin 3 styles are not compatible with vBulletin 5.

                        Hello. Could you please help with some ideas. Recently I did the upgrade to 5.3.3 and all went well (the forum is fine and running). However I found that in the polls some text is missing. I have my latest backup on my computer and would like to find this text, so I need to open / read the files in my backup. I do not need to use this backup for my forum, but I need to find some posts there (to find some text in it) and copy it. If there is some way to do it? How can I read the backup files on my computer? Thanks.
