Saying I have to rename file to config.php but it already is..

    Hey,

This just started happening on a site:

Configuration: includes/config.php does not exist. Please fill out the data in config.php.new and rename it to config.php

The file exists and I know the defailt is .php.new - The site is over 12 years old and I have never seen this beforell

    Hope someone can help,

    Thanks,
    John

      Hey,

It shouldn't have .txt as the extension, just config.php?

I haven't changed anything on it, I know when vB is installed is is config.php.new but I have the correct details in the file and it is config.php so I don't know where is it getting config.php.new from.. That file doesn't even exist in the includes folder..

      Thanks

It means when PHP tries to include the file, it can't find it on the server at the location. That is the OS of the server is returning a file not found error. If the file does exist, then you need to contact your hosting provider and ask what permissions it needs to have in order to be seen by PHP. All PHP files should have those permissions.

          Hey Wayne,

Just got my sites back up, same problem.

What permission should config be set at?

I have no idea how this just started happening.. It was working fine before.

          Thanks Wayne

I can guess at 0644 or 0755. The first is more secure. Your hosting provider would be able to give more accurate information.

We would need more information, such as what php version and what vBulletin version.
Only 3.8.11 is compatible with php 7.x for example.
