Unable to connect to server?

I have a very frustrating issue with my forum in that many members seem unable to access the site.

I have the same issue when I am at home, when I try to visit the site I get a page come up that say's "Unable to connect to server".

If I check to see if the website is down the result always comes back as it's just me, the website is fine.

Sometimes I am able to log onto the site but after viewing 3 or 4 pages it goes again and I get the "Unable to connect to server" page back up.

My hosting company say's it's nothing to do with them, suggesting it's either a fault using Apple (as I have the issues using Iphone and Ipad) or with forum modifications that have been added. Strange thing is that others also have access issues using Samsung notepads and no new mods have been added for a long time.

Any ideas/suggestions please?

Ah good old hosting companies, claiming that inability to connect to their server is nothing to do with them!

What you'll need to do is get hold of the server logs for when this happens and see if there's anything in there that might point to it. But that error usually means the server s not available, and that's either a hosting issue, or possible an internet connection issue.

Would it make sense that a user can access the site via a PC and playbook but unable to via samsung tablet?

Should not make any difference. Likelihood is they have a flakey mobile connection.

Don't think that's the case as most appear to be on wifi and all report that they can access other websites at the same time, it's specific to the forum only (

Would be worth trying the following then, just to rule it out 100%:

1. To disable the plugin/hook system completely, edit includes/config.php and add the following code:

enter

define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

2. Now go to AdminCP > Style Manager
and create a new style with no parent.
Now browse your forum using this new style.

Does the problem still occur?

Welll.... I'll add to this thread instead of a new one.

My users (and in this case, myself!)haven't been able to connect through 3G/4G but seem to not have a problem over wi-fi.

At 1st I thought it was a tapatalk issue, it is not.

When I try to get to the site using 3g/4g, I get the following:

502 bad gateway Response error, a bad response was received from another proxy server or the destination origin server.

Now I'm thinking it's an AT&T issue, as so far, all the users that have taken the time to comment are having this issue while on AT&T.

This same thing happened about 2 weeks ago and I was out of town. It apparently resolved itself, but now it is behaving in the same manner. No 3G/4G connection and even some are having problem directly through their desktop/cable system, but I haven't concluded if that is all through AT&T or just what yet.

Very frustrating trying to track it down. Webhost says not them, tapatalk says not them.....only common denominator so far is VBulletin and AT&T.

I had read somewhere else about AT&T using a proxy or something for connections. Is that the problem?

Where to try next for help with this?

First advice would be to try the same thing as in post number 6.

Can't we just disable the plugin/hook system instead of adding the code above?
