Hi,

Why no matter what I change in that option screen, it doesn't save the settings?

thought it was self explanatory that it is what I did, unless I would be extremely retarded and then I wouldn't even be able to install a vb to begin with, I do know you need to press "save" in order to save...

So I did press save, and it said the settings were saved, then reloaded and nothing was actually saved

First try clearing your browser cache and cookies, then restarting your browser. You could also try it in a different browser, just as a test.

Is it just Registration Options with the problem? Have you tried changing other settings? Please try if you haven't.

Try disabling hooks-

To disable the plugin/hook system open your config.php which can be found in your forumroot/includes directory

Just below

define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

and save the file.

If you would like to enable the plugin/hook system again, either remove the line again or simply comment that line out. To do so, add two forward slashes " / " so it will look like

// define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

Next time you would like to disable the plugin/hook system again
you simply have to remove the " // ".

deleted cookies, tried firefox and IE still same crap!!!
all form based or radio based options work, only box check based options do not respond

This is the support forum. Please try what I suggested (disabling hooks) and let us know if the issue continues. Please also confirm if the problem is limited to Registration options, or all check-box options.

ok the hook disabling manipulation worked, but what does it mean exactly?

Now how can I now force the following option for users who registered in the past? I certainly won't go through 5000 users manually, will I.
Options that needs to be forced to Yes:
-Receive Private Messages
-Send Notification Email When a Private Message is Received
-Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default
-Enable Visitor Messaging
-Display Signatures
-Display Avatars
-Display Images
-Display Reputation

A sql should be possible, but I'm not a sql expert.

And I do not understand how these option ever got disabled, I'm starting to think my site has been attacked or something.

That means you have a modification that you've installed that's screwing with the ability to use the default vBulletin code as normal. To find out what's doing this, disable all add-ons via AdminCP > Plugins & Products > Manage Products, remove the disable hooks line from config.php (if it's still there) then enable each product one by one and test if you still have the problem after each. Once you find the one that's causing the issue, you'll need to report it to the modification author so they can look into why it's happening.

As for the SQL Queries a number of those are "built in."

Go to the Admin CP -> Maintenance -> Execute SQL Query (you need to use an admin with permission to run queries as set in config.php)

From the 'Automatic Query' drop down box you can select a number of queries for the options you describe.

Pardon me for going a little off-topic, but I've always wondered why vB support tells people how to disable all plugins this way? Why not just tell them a way that doesn't involve editing a file: AdminCP > vBulletin Options > Plugin/Hook System > select No and Save I've used this many times before and it works just like that boilerplate reply I've seen hundreds of times, only this way is quicker and easier.

Jim,

Disabling hooks from config.php ALWAYS works... Disabling hooks from the options usually works, but not always- and to save hours of trouble-shooting it is better/safer to do it the sure way first.
