After upgrade 3.8.7 redirect logs you out

I need help. please. it's driving me batty at this point. when i go to my site http://www.mysite.com its fine i'm logged in. go to browser and type http://mysite.com/forum.php i'm logged out. A member found this, not sure why she had that url-but if others do, they will have the same login issues. please help. It did not do this before the upgrade to 3.8.7 by the way. As a matter of fact , when i click my logo it never said http://www.mysite.com/forum.php which is weird. Support said 301 redirect. I would appreciate the exact code to stick in the .htaccess file. I cant find the fix anywhere.

That is totally normal, that show cookies work. Your webhost can help you with an htaccess.

Sorry, but i'm not sure why this is normal. How does my site logging a member out normal? my host company (Host Gator) says it cannot redirect this issue and they feel it is the script. I am just looking for a simple answer. I feel as if i should not have upgraded. My site worked fine before the upgrade so it's obviously an issue with this version 3.8.7. Maybe I was not clear, I will explain exactly what happened after upgrade.

1.) A member of my site emailed me and said, "Hey, I Googled your site and clicked the forum link and it gave me a weird redirect error." See attachment. I have also attached the site name/ url settings and the General Settings of my site. I did add the URL in the whitelist in the site name/ URL settings as well with no avail.

2.) Here is what was happening after I investigated- you search my site on Google and clicked my forum link it brought you to http://www.mysite.com/ (notice the www.) and if you were logged in, you remained logged into my forum. If you search my site on Yahoo or Bing and clicked my forum link it brought you to http://mysite.com/ (missing the www.) and it appeared you were logged out of the site. If you typed the address into the site with the www. it showed you logged in, go back to Google search my site, click link it showed you were logged in. Go to Yahoo or Bing, search my site, click forum link-logged out.??????????

3.) Called my host (Host Gator) and they did and were able to redirect and fix or redirect the http://mysite.com/ (missing the www.) to be redirected to http://www.mysite.com/ - ok great- I think it's fixed. (By the way I tried all the whitelist stuff I found while running mad all over the internet to no avail.)

4.) A day later or so, a member shoots me a PM on site's Facebook page saying "Hey, I clicked this link I had saved in my bookmarks and it wont' let me log in?" The link was http://mysite.com/forum.php (notice the www. missing-AND I have no idea where she got or saved that link from??) ) so I was logged into my site at the time, clicked her link and walah! logged out again!

5.) Called hos gator and they said it seems like a script issue and they were unable to redirect from that URL.??????

6.) If it makes any sense-when clicking on my logo it brings you to http://www.mysite.com/forum.php and it's fine-keeps you logged in-take the www. out and you are logged out. I just don't get it.

7.) Please, my site worked with 3.8.4-it does not work properly now with 3.8.7 - I just want it back to how it worked before. I have purchased 2 Vbulletin license i purchased from you and a blog license. please lend a helping hand and help me fix this issue, i'm sure this an easy fix.

      Thanks in advanced.

      -Tom

http://www.domain.com and http://domain.com are two different domains, as far as your browser and cookies are concerned. Thats why its normal.

So was it wrong to redirect my site like I had done? What is strange Zachery is that when searching my site on Yahoo, clicking on the link to my site brought you to http://mysite.com/ - if it's a completely different domain, If you are correct why did it go to my site? by the way, this is before any redirect was done. but I am here to fix the issue, it would be greatly appreciated if you had input on a fix.

I put my old Navbar template back that I had saved at one time and-my site redirects perfect.???????? Will i be at any security risk due to installing old navbar template? The reason i reinstalled the old is due to a notifications mod not working correct, it fixed that as well.

You do understand that you're supposed to wait 24 hours before bumping a post, and you do have ticket support. But believe it or not we're all just people like you and we only can work so many hours in the day before we go crazy

Since you're using custom code we can't really comment on why it works better than it used to. I would suggest possibly setting your cookie domain to .domain.com which should help keep your users appearing as logged in.

It is how browsers handle it. There is no fix. Your .htaccess to automatically redirect them to the www domain if that is the one you want to use.

You can try setting your Cookie domain to .mysite.com (first period is 100% required) but some people may not be able to login at all.
