PM system failure and posting failure

I've been getting this glitch on my forum whenever one tries to send a PM or to post a message on the board.
I haven't updated or installed anything for the past year, in addition I deactivated all the plugins - as per advice read in these fora - and still the error persists.
What can I do in order to solve or bypass this problem?

Thank you Lats! However I haven't updated to PCRE 8.21, hence that I don't need to downgrade to 8.20.

Okay, worth mentioning though as a recent cpanel update included it.

Have you checked phpinfo to make sure your host hasn't done it behind the scenes?

Yes Paul, l I know that, hence my reply on post #3
I'm still boggled by this glitch! What else could be causing it?

Im not really sure how I can make it any clearer, nothing else causes it, its a bug in PCRE 8.21.

My host admin has applied a patch (twice, it did not worked from the beginning or he did not restarted smting...) and now is working.
Have no clue what was they applied but it worked.
                    Hope it helps someone...
